Scholarships are awarded annually by the Art Department to students within its programs. Students apply for all available scholarships at one time. Winners are selected by Department faculty, either through a portfolio review or paper submission process.
Eligibility for Financial Need-Based Awards
All continuing students who wish to be considered for scholarships based on financial need must submit a  form (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
Only scholarship applicants who need to update their personal criteria information must also fill out the Scholarship Form for Continuing Students.
FAFSA DEADLINE: All FAFSA forms and the Scholarship Forms for Continuing Students must be submitted by February 15 before the coming academic year to: Office of Student Financial Aid, 121 Alfred B. Rollins Jr. Hall.
Apply for Art Scholarships
The ÌÒ»¨ÉçÇøÊÓƵ Art Department is issuing an open call for submissions for its 2023-2024 Scholarship Competition.
The Scholarship Competition is open to all Art Department majors with at least one semester of coursework remaining and less than 180 total academic credits by the time of graduation. A variety of scholarships are available for both Studio Art and Art History.
Scholarship types will be awarded based on artistic merit of work submitted and a combination of concentration, GPA, enrollment, and financial need according to the specifications of available scholarships. All media will be considered, and students are encouraged to submit up to five (5) works. A series of pieces will be considered as a single work.
Students who apply for need based scholarships must fill out a FAFSA prior to submitting to the Scholarship Competition. Please respond thoroughly to all questions to be considered for different scholarships.
The recipients will be notified by the Financial Office and an awards ceremony will take place at the opening reception of the Spring Senior Exhibition in the Baron and Elin Gordon Art Galleries on campus, Monarch Way.

Art Scholarships
The scholarship is provided by an endowment established by the artist Lorraine Fink and her husband Dr. H. William Fink to honor the longtime faculty member and founder of Printmaking concentration in the Art Department, Professor Ken Daley. The scholarship is awarded to a rising Senior in the BFA program who has a declared concentration in Print and Photo Media and whose minimum GPA is 3.0. The scholarship is based on merit and review of student's portfolio. At such time in the future a MFA program is re-established, the scholarship will revert to an incoming graduate student majoring in art.
The scholarship was established by Mrs. Rita A. Frank to assist a student in the College of Arts and Letters enrolled in the studio art class of blacksmithing, metalwork, jewelry-making or equivalent. Recipient(s) must be full-time student(s), graduate or undergraduate; Sophomore or above, and have minimum GPA of 3.0 within the student's major (not the overall GPA of 3.0). Selected and reviewed by a selection committee comprised of the Chair of the Art Department, faculty in the College of Arts and Letters and a member of the Frank family, if available.
The scholarship was established by Ocean Breeze Festival Park, Inc. to assist a full-time undergraduate Senior majoring in Art and working on their final project as they are nearing graduation. The scholarship will be awarded in two equal (fall/spring) installments.
Endowed by the Gorlinski family in memory of their daughter specifically for students studying in the Fine Arts Program. Eligibility: at least half-time enrolled, fine arts major with demonstrated financial need, must have at least a 2.5 GPA (portfolio and FAFSA*). Preference will be given to graduates of Edison High School in Fairfax County, Virginia.
The Jensen Scholarship was established by George and Linda Jensen to assist a Junior or Sophomore art major within the College of Arts and Letters. The award is contingent upon full-time enrolment and maintenance of an outstanding academic performance. Preference will be given to a student with financial need (portfolio and FAFSA*).
This award is intended for full-time undergraduate students attending ÌÒ»¨ÉçÇøÊÓƵ Dominion University and enrolled in the B.F.A. Program, B.A. with Studio Major, B.A. in Art Education, or the M.A./M.F.A. program in Visual Studies. Selection is based on student's portfolio. Award amount and number of awards may vary.
The Robert McCullough Prize is a cash award awarded yearly to an exceptional Graphic Design student, regardless of class standing (graduating seniors may apply). The award is selected by graphic design faculty, and will be submitted during the annual scholarship judging as a PDF portfolio consisting of 5 graphic design projects. The Prize was established in memory of Professor Robert McCullough, longtime Art Department faculty member and founder of the Graphic Design concentration. This Prize is administered by the Graphic Design Program, please direct your submissions to Prof. Ivanete Blanco.
This scholarship was created by Helen and Richard Parker to assist an undergraduate student majoring in art history. The award is contingent upon a full-time enrolment, a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and demonstration of financial need (FAFSA*). The scholarship will be awarded in two equal (fall/spring) installments. This scholarship may be renewed.
The scholarship is intended for an undergraduate or graduate student in arts/fine arts with an emphasis in painting or drawing. The scholarship is awarded to a student who has achieved GPA of 3.0 and demonstrated financial need (FAFSA*). Student must be a United ÌÒ»¨ÉçÇøÊÓƵs citizen or Israeli citizen, with preference to Israeli citizenship. A portfolio must be a part of the selection process.
Established by friends and supporters of Art Department in honor of Professor Charles Sibley, former prominent member of the art faculty at ÌÒ»¨ÉçÇøÊÓƵ Dominion University. The award may be shared by studio art majors and art history majors, undergraduate or graduate. It is contingent upon at least half-time enrollment and based on student's portfolio (for studio art) or paper (for art history majors).
The Melinda Vooss ArtFully Yours Scholarship was established by Scott Vooss to assist students during their K-12 student teaching internship in Hampton Roads. It is open to all Art Education seniors who have completed the required coursework for the BFA in Art Education K-12 public school licensure. Students must be enrolled in their student teaching internship (TLED480) for the final spring semester to be eligible.
