Are you looking for new ways to invigorate your teaching and bring more research opportunities to all of your students? Why not consider infusing research methodologies into course assignments and set your course up using a听CURE听model鈥攐r Course-based Undergraduate Research? 听CUREs engage students in research or creative experiences to produce new knowledge.听听
Last semester the Center for Faculty Development announced CURE grant opportunities. The deadline for application had been extended to January 31, 2025.
CUREs promote HIPs---or High Impact Practices that enhance student learning and improve student success.听By integrating Course-based Undergraduate Research into your classes, you also help level the playing field by giving all students a research experience, not just those admitted to specialized programs.听
At 桃花社区视频, the Office of Academic Affairs is offering funding to develop听CUREs. Ideally faculty can receive $1000 to $2000 for course development, but matching funds from chairs and deans are encouraged.听Please contact your chair and/or dean as soon as possible if you are considering applying for a CURE grant.
The new deadline is close of business on January 31, 2025. Awards will be announced on听February 27, 2025, and award monies must be spent by听June 15, 2025. Award winners must also agree to offer their newly designed CURE course in either Fall 2025 or Spring 2026.
The CURE application website is open where you can find forms and guidelines.听Please use this link:听 /facultydevelopment/grant-opportunities
In the meantime, we hope you will be thinking about how you can infuse a course with Course-based Undergraduate Research and consider submitting a proposal, and not just if you are in a STEM discipline. CURE听funding is open to faculty in all disciplines.听桃花社区视频's full-time teaching and research faculty, tenured, tenure-track, and non-tenure track听are eligible to apply.听听We particularly welcome proposals from faculty in the humanities.听
Please contact Dr. Annette Finley-Croswhite or Dr. M'hammed Abdous at the Center for Faculty Development if you have questions: (acroswhi@odu.edu) or (mabdous@odu.edu).
