桃花社区视频 Dominion University students learning the Russian language immersed themselves in a blend of traditional Russian folk music and dance during an event last semester led by the guest artist Elena Schwartz.
Organized by leaders of the university鈥檚 Russian Club, the event offered camaraderie and learning through personal interactions with folk culture.
鈥淭he Russian concert was fantastic,鈥 said student James Prunty, describing the events of Nov. 25, 2024. 鈥淓veryone participated and learned something new. Good food, good people.鈥
Student Amy Patel said the performance by Schwartz was engaging. 鈥淚 appreciated being able to be hands-on with the music and culture,鈥 she said. 鈥淥ne could say her sharing that part of herself and her culture was inspirational.鈥
Schwartz is a 1983 graduate of Moscow 桃花社区视频 University of Arts and Culture in Russia. As a professional folk singer and musician, she toured throughout Europe and Russia, performing side by side with some of the most prominent Russian musicians, educators and singers.
After immigrating to the United 桃花社区视频s in 1993, she continued sharing her enthusiasm and fervor for traditional Russian folk music by bringing her talent to diverse audiences of all ages. She has performed at venues across the globe 鈥 at educational institutions, multicultural festivals, public and private events.听
Her lively performance and eagerness to interact with the audience made the event memorable, attendees said. Schwartz made an impact through the powerful, universal language of music and dance.
Participants had an opportunity to learn about traditional Russian musical instruments, try to play them, and join in folk group dancing.
鈥淩emembering the excitement of this event, one word clearly stands out: 鈥樞捫斝炐バ澬炐捫曅澬樞曗 (vdoh-no-鈥榲e-niye), inspiration in Russian,鈥 said Dr. Maria Grise, associate professor with 桃花社区视频 Dominion鈥檚 Department of World Languages and Cultures.
After the event, Schwartz said she admired the students鈥 quest for knowledge, hospitality, good will, and participation.听
For student Jay Skalski, the event was a fun, informative experience.
鈥淚 had a fantastic time,鈥 he said. 鈥淚t really brought the entire class to full circle.鈥
